Age Group Guidelines

If you are 18 years of age or older on 31/12/17 then you will be considered a senior for season 2017/18. We have several senior men’s teams competing at various different levels, the appropriate team for you will depend on what level you wish to play at and what your ability level is. Some rough guidelines are available on each teams page but ultimately the decision will rest with the team Head Coaches after evaluating your play.

If you are 16/17 years of age on 31/12/17 then you will be considered a Junior for season 2017/18.

If you are 14/15 years of age on 31/12/17 then you will be considered a Cadet for season 2017/18.

If you are under 14 years of age on 31/12/17 then you will be considered an under 14’s player for season 2017/18. Please refer to our Youth Academy.

Division Guidelines

National League. This is the highest level of basketball in BasketballScotlands league structure. Domestic players – previous experience of play at or close to this level would be preferred. Overseas players – Please contact one of the team coaches to discuss your previous playing experience so we can advise the most suitable division for you. Please include any game footage you have.

SLBA Division 1. This is the highest level of regional league play available. This is suitable for experienced high level players who wish to play competitive basketball but don’t want to or can’t commit to National League play. This team can also be used for players looking to improve and progress to National League level. Domestic players – previous experience of play at or close to this level would be preferred. Overseas players – Please contact one of the team coaches to discuss your previous playing experience so we can advise the most suitable division for you.

SLBA Division 2. Play at this level is very competitive and suited to players not quite at Div 1/National League level who are looking to improve/progress. Can provide a good transitional stage for talented players coming out of Junior level to Senior.

SLBA Division 4. The standard of play at this level is lower but still competitive. This level can be suited to older players or players who enjoy playing but are not really looking to progress up to higher levels of play.
